Profesor investigador titular del Departamento de Sociología y Administración Pública de la Universidad de Sonora, donde me incorporé en 2018. Obtuve el Doctorado en Política en la Universidad de Sheffield, Inglaterra, en 2016. Fui becario postdoctoral del Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas de la UNAM de 2016 a 2018. Cuento además con el grado de Maestro en Ciencias Sociales por parte de FLACSO-México y con el grado de Ingeniero Industrial por el Instituto Politécnico Nacional.
Hoy en día, investigo la actual oleada global de autocratización en/desde el caso mexicano. He publicado artículos en revistas académicas como Latin American Perspectives, Politics, Foro Internacional, Mexican Studies/Estudios Mexicanos, o la Revista Española de Sociología.
Aprendí los rudimentos del análisis político en la vida antes que en la academia. Fui militante de la izquierda comunista desde adolescente y por 25 años, hasta que acceder a la Verdad fue más importante que defender una ideología. Con mis estudiantes, me gusta aprovechar el conocimiento antiguo para complementar la ciencia política contemporánea. Mi curiosidad por las revoluciones del siglo XX me llevó a estudiar (y percibir) sus reverberaciones en América Latina y más allá.
Aunque me he inclinado al género del ensayo, la ciencia disciplinaria es también uno de mis ejes. El ‘régimen’ ha sido mi unidad de análisis persistente, desde el ángulo (según la ocasión) de la economía política, la democracia, las políticas públicas o, más recientemente, las relaciones civiles-militares.
La política es el arte de la liberación colectiva, pero sólo a través del conocimiento.
Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Public Administration of the University of Sonora, Mexico, which I joined in 2018. I obtained the PhD in Politics at the University of Sheffield, UK, in 2016. I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Legal Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) from 2016 to 2018. I also hold the degree of Master of Social Sciences by FLACSO-México and the degree of Industrial Engineer by the National Polytechnic Institute.
Currently, I study the contemporary global wave of autocratization in/through the Mexican case. I have published articles in journals such as Latin American Perspectives, Politics, Foro Internacional, Mexican Studies/Estudios Mexicanos, or the Spanish Journal of Sociology.
I learned the basics of political analysis in life rather than in academia. I was a militant of the communist left since I was a teenager and for 25 years, until accessing Truth became more important than defending any ideology. With my students, I enjoy taking advantage of ancient knowledge to complement contemporary political science. My curiosity for the 20th century revolutions led me to study (and sense) their reverberations in Latin America and beyond.
Although I have tended towards the essay genre, disciplinary science is also one of my focal points. The ‘regime’ (or polity) has been my persistent unit of analysis from the vantage point –according to the occasion– of political economy, democracy, public policies or, more recently, civil-military relations.
Politics is the art of collective liberation, but only through knowledge.
